Innosea swaps buses for bikes in 2023 Commuting Challenge

Innosea’s CSR team issued a new edition of its annual “Commuting Challenge” to all staff in September, dedicated to reducing CO2 emissions from home to office commutes.

Throughout September, the Innosea team has changed their commuting habits in order to try to win the challenge – with a gift card prize up for grabs for the winners!

There were two prize categories:

  • Greatest Emissions Improvement: The participant who achieves the most significant reduction in emissions between June and September.
  • Longest Distance Covered by Bike, Foot or Skate: In September, the person who covers the longest distance by bike or walking.

The winner for Greatest Emissions Improvement was Aymeric Naud, who achieved a 100% reduction by primarily substituting bus travel with cycling.

We asked Aymeric for his thoughts on the challenge:

What was your plan to win the commuting challenge? What have you changed in your routine?

“I went from taking the bus & walking to cycling to commute to work, which reduced the commute emissions to almost zero.”

Do you think this challenge has helped change your habits?

“I had already planned to change my means of transport with the bike, the challenge helped me to put it into practice.”

How do you plan to spend your prize?

“I intend to buy bike equipment (new brake pads, winter gloves, etc) and general sports equipment that I had in mind.”

The winner for Longest Distance Covered by Bike was Thomas Potentier who covered a foot-equivalent distance of 115 km in September.

When asked about the challenge, Thomas said:

What was your plan to win the commuting challenge? What have you changed in your routine?

“It wasn’t my plan to win the challenge (although it did cross my mind, I won’t lie). Since I have quite a long commute, I knew I had a good chance to be on the podium. I didn’t change my routine but tried to stick to the challenge as much as possible.”

Do you think this challenge has helped change your habits?

“I don’t think my habits will change that much; however, it reinforces my wish to commute by bike as often as I can going forward, instead of taking the train.”

How do you plan to spend your prize?

“I don’t know yet, but most probably on biking gear (safety first!)”

Our thanks to everyone at Innosea who took part in the Commuting Challenge, and a big well done to our worthy winners.
